There’s Always A Weak Link
Feb 16th, 2010 by Johan
Get the community to communicate was not an issue when we had 10 bars and no TV in Simon’s Town. We can blame TV for the steep increase in property prices and the fact that all the bars closed down. Apparently when there were 10 bars in Simon’s Town, you could not give your property away. Today we have a different breed in Simon’s Town. Yes…I include even myself.
The weak link is the reason why there’s an apparent divide for some, and real divide for others. This divide stops the good guys from working towards the good of Simon’s Town. The good volunteers and the good developers.
Like it or not.
All these parties operate in the dark. None of their communications are public. Yes. You and I have access to it. But not easy access to any of these developments, you don’t have any idea of the tricks pulled by rule breaking developers, you have no idea of the frustration experienced by the good developers. You have no idea of how despondent the volunteers get because they are fighting a battle all on their own. Because you have no idea you cannot help any of the good guys, …sorry good girls…..by putting pressure where it matters…. Because a lack of public information sharing, stops you, by default, to deduct the cause. After my previous, not so nice post, I had long discussions with one of the very active volunteers. When the time is right I will share his name with you.
Here’s what I suggest! This volunteer was very positive to my proposal. He has even done some investigation on how other communities make this work.Let’s all must become part of the information cycle. Let’s get educated by these volunteers and good developers through sharing of information online. Information that’s made Public in an easily shareable format. Basically, the idea is to create an online place where you can subscribe to get these updates. Like you subscribed to this newsletter. The volunteers, the good guys and others will publish their issues online to inform and educate us. You can now become part of the communication shaping the future of Simon’s Town. And all you need to do is read. No work. Nothing. But now you will be an informed home owner.
For example, the volunteer (this can include you if you like) walk past a development that’s not according to plan. The volunteer takes a few photos and share the related issues through the online newsletter. You are then informed of the issues that frustrate these good guys and you can help to relieve the pressure. Let me repeat; by just being informed. The idea is that easily and regularly shared information will set us free.
