For all I care; I would rather be living in Simon's Town than Joburg or, even, Cape Town. Why? The recent crime stats showed that Simon's Town is one of the safest place in South Africa. And the general perception is that our larger area is safe. For example, sometime ago this blog published an article, "Joburg vs Cape Town: Fewer Capetonians want to sell their homes because of crime." They are running a poll and this is the result to date:

We came to Simon's Town, not because we wanted a safe place, we moved to Simon's Town because it's one of the most beautiful places in the world. While it's beautiful I am always amazed when Joburgers come to a show house wanting to buy real estate in Simon's Town; they cannot believe the easy-way we live. They want to know about all the security issues and then, "why don't you have high walls between your neighbours?"
